Portuguese Food Balance 2012-2016

The Portuguese Food Balance Sheet (BAP) is an analytical instrument of statistical nature that measures food consumption from the point of view of food supply. It is expressed in daily sup- plies per inhabitant, translated into calories, pro- teins, carbohydrates, fats and alcohol.

For BAP 2012-2016, the food composition ta- ble used has been updated and a micronutrient analysis (vitamins and minerals) is included for the first time. The information is available for the entire time series (1990-2016).

As in previous editions, INE had the valuable collaboration of the “Centro de Estudos de Nu- trição” from “Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ri- cardo Jorge” for the food composition table elab- oration, as well as in the analysis of some of the methods used and the results obtained.

A set of harmonized and comparable statistical indicators on BAP is available at from 1990 to 2016.
