Gas Change

The Brussels-Capital Region is currently supplied with lean gas from the region of Groningen, in the Netherlands. Gas exploitation generates soil stability problems there (earthquakes) and the Dutch government has decided to gradually reduce its gas exports from 2024 to completely eliminate them in 2030. Lean gas being scarce, the Brussels Region has chosen to supply itself with rich gas and to convert its gas distribution network accordingly.

Based on a schedule agreed at federal level, the Brussels-Capital Region has been divided into 4 zones which will be successively converted to rich gas in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
